I'm working on my husband's genealogy at his request and I need to know how old a person needed to be to purchase land in 1670 because some dates aren't adding up but I know he purchased land in 1670 if anyone knows it would help me out tremendously

  1. In VA, in that time frame, there were MANY land grants for settlement.  That was a main source of land.

If you have a verified document showing that he actually did purchase land.. I would personally be fairly certain the the date for his birth, is an estimate from some other event, and that the odds are that the date is off.  You ARE aware, I hope.. that many "files" and such, that are posted online, are based on very debatable sources or research??

  2. There was no age requirement. You simply had to be a free, white man and loyal to the Crown.

  3. Did he buy it or was it bequeathed?

Maybe if you post the name here, someone else can look at the dates.  Possibly catch something you missed.
