  1. Are you kidding? There were black slaves in Florida long before the English arrived on the Mayflower.

Don't get all misty eyed about George Washington. True, he was offered a kingship of the country and turned it down. On the other hand he was the richest man in America and had a lot of slaves. It's largely because of him and Jefferson that slavery was written into the Constitution.

  2. Of course!

Washington's family were slaveholders although he didn't approve of the practice.

Lincoln is credited with freeing slaves so there had to be slaves before his Presidency for him to free, right?

Oh and Presidents don't "reign" they have "terms".

  4. Yes.  Washington and most Virginians owned slaves.

  5. Yes. They came in many ethic backgrounds and reasons. There were three types of slaves. The indentured, the purchased, and the ones gotten by right of conquest. Many Spanish and French slaves as-well-as English crown slaves perished in Alabama and Georgia clearing land and draining swamps. Many Native Americans were also enslaved.

  6. Of course there were. Many presidents were slave owners themselves.

  7. Of course!

    Q. What year were the first slaves brought to America and when did people start objecting to this practice?

    A. In 1619, the first black slaves landed at Jamestown, Virginia, a community that was the first European settlement in America, established in 1607. Records indicate that the first formal protest by the white population against slavery was made by the Quakers of Pennsylvania in 1688.
