  1. Very few, if any.

The various witch-hunts & conviction arising therefrom were acts of feverish religious scapegoating.

  2. There were many people falsely  accused of witchcraft and burned drowned and tortured.  Today is still the same only people are accused of neglect, illegal immigration or drug use.

  3. there were witches all over, but since it was punishable by death, they didn't advertise.  witches or wise women have been around forever.

  4. Ever read about Salem, Mass?

many women and men were executed for being witches.  1692 I think was the main year.

the historical strategy is they ate moldy bread that had LSD type side effects which caused people to suspect them of being a witch or a thought that a teenager tried to cover up an affair

England, the US and Mexico all have histories of witch trials or fear of witches

  5. There are probably more practicing witches now than ther were than, thanks to religious freedoms.

  6. No there were no witches. I suppose there probably were some wiccans though. The people burnt were just ordinary women.

  7. There were a number of people killed as witches in what is now the USA, and there were certainly some people who practiced magick and who may have followed a religion which the Puritans would have labelled heresy or Satanic.  However, those who were hung (or crushed) as witches were almost certainly not.  They were merely those accused, due to small town resentments and hysteria.
