  1. Eleanor, Queen of Aragon

    Alfonso XI of Castile

Joan, daughter of Edward III of England

John le Stratford and Thomas Bradwardine, archbishops of Canterbury

25% of the papal court at Avignon

  2. Many of the wealthy escaped to their country homes, where they quarantined themselves, so I´m pretty sure if you looked at overall numbers, the wealthy and the aristocrats lost far fewer by percentage than the common folk, who HAD to live in close quarters, and HAD to care for each other.

  3. Yes, perhaps most significantly, one of the daughters of Edward III, Joan of England (1334-1348), died of plague in Bayonne on her way to marry Pedro of Castille. According to Wikipedia, "Not only was she one of the earliest victims of the Plague, but her death seem to prove that even royalty was not going to be spared the deadly affliction."  Curiously, Pedro of Castille's father, Alfonso XI, died of the Great Plague of 1350 at the Siege of Gibraltar.

In addition to Joan of England's early death from the Plague, English archbishops, bishops, abbots, abbesses, nobles and lords of manors died in the first outbreak of the plague. In 1349, two ex-chancellors and three archbishops of Canterbury died from the pan-epidemic. In 1361, the Duke of Lancaster died from a recurrence of the bubonic plague.

  4. Yes there were, they couldn't hide from it or be protected against it.

  5. Yes there were quite a few.The black plague was indiscriminate and took royalty and commoners alike.

  6. Maybe.  But, I doubt it. They were so protected and removed from the people.  Even if they were touched, that would've been covered up and even careful research wouldn't uncover it.  It's a dead end.
