  1. Craganour in 1913 remains the only Derby winner to have been disqualified for an incident in the race, when the Classic was awarded to Aboyeur. That Derby was one of the most dramatic of all time as the suffragette Emily Davison was killed after running in front of King George V's horse Anmer at Tattenham Corner.

In 1844, "Running Rein" finished first past the post but the horse was soon disqualified when it was discovered that he was really a four-year-old called Maccabeus. The prize was awarded to Orlando.

  2. Two horses have been disqulified after winning the Derby -

In 1844 RUNNING REIN was disqualified after it was discovered he was actually a four year old named Maccabeus (the Derby is for 3yos only)

In 1913 Craganour was disqualified and the race awarded to Aboyeur.

It is often speculated that the reason for the disqualifaction was that the owner of Craganour was Charles Ismay, brother of J Bruce Ismay (a member of the company that owned the Titanic).  The Titanic had sunk the previous year with a great loss of life and it was rumoured that Mr Ismay had been quick to save his own skin by getting into a lifeboat whilst there were still women and children aboard the sinking ship.

The 1913 running of the Epsom Derby was also the race in which the Suffragette Emily Davison was killed after she threw herself in front of the King's horse Anmer.
