No..not in my opinion because mars is younger than earth so earth's surface/atmosphere is maturer than mars so in that case mars should have life on it after earth..

and..

mars is next to the kupiter belt so it has asteriods etc.. hitting its surface .. so how possible can living things live on it..

I believe there was. The lasted Explorer found water. Sometime I think Earth will look like Mars someday if we don't get out acts together. And it upsets me because we have such a beautiful planet brimming with life, just maybe not enough intelligent life.Moth

I would like to go there and look for evidence though.

Mars has ice and could have had a thicker atmosphere and liquid water long ago, so it is quite possible that there once was life on mars.

I read yesterday that billions of years ago Mars had a large amount of water could sustain life if it was there. They also had a magnetic field but it has since died out.

Mars could have had life based on these discoveries.

We don't know.  There was a time frame where it could have developed.  The life would have been single celled, microscopic.  There was no time for more advanced life to develop.  It has been suggested that during this period, collisions with asteroids could have sent biological material around the solar system.  Life on Earth could possibly have had a martian origin.  Or perhaps life on Mars could have had an earth origin.  Or some set of events even stranger.  But until we can find some martian life or fossils of previous life, such questions can never be answered.  If life on mars exists currently, it would be deep in the crust, in an area with available water, surrounding a remaining Martian hot spot.  Whether these conditions exist is questionable.
