Question:

Was this fair/ right why I failed my driving test?

OK so I failed my driving test for "double stopping" at stop signs "too many times." You know, where you stop behind the sign, then pull up ahead and stop again if you can't see the first time. This is what I was taught to do in Driver's Ed and by my instructor. I'm short so I double stopped 3 or 4 times during my test because I couldn't see but did everything else right and I was failed.

I explained to him why I did it and he was just kinda like, "oh well." It really makes me mad because he also failed others for NOT double stopping. So gosh, what was I supposed to do? What should I do for next time? I'm afraid then if I don't stop behind the sign I'll get points off. There's no way to win?

Do you think this was fair? I was being safe by double stopping so basically I was failed for being too safe, wtffff? Suggestions for next time?

  1. that is a bad habit to get into. once you start to leave the driver behind you doesn't expect you to stop again. the tester was right you need to stop doing this, your not being careful if you cause accidents. sorry.

  2. Double stopping in the "real world" will get you rear-ended.

  3. If you stopped that many times at each stopsign it made you look like you were unsure about what you were doing. If you don;t appear to be comfortable behind the wheel you are not gonna pass for safety reasons. Examiners are trained on what to look for when on road test. If you are unsure in your movements then you are a high risk driver and not safe to be on the road. If you pull up to go commit to it. Don't hesitate unless you see a possible hazard. As far as being short , sit on a pillow or something to help you out with your vision.

  4. This is a very bad habit to get into and will get you rear-ended.  Anyone at a stop sign would think that you were going to go forward and when you stop again you would be in a crash.  I would call your Driver's Ed teacher and tell him that you failed the test and why.

When you come to a stop sign you stop at the line which is right before the sign once.  Come to a complete stop to a count of three and then proceed if it is safe to do so.  This is the proper way to stop and go safely.  Do not ever double stop on a test.  He did not fail other for not double stopping, they did other things wrong.

  5. Stop behind the stop sign look left and right and if you cannot see clearly pull forward a little look left and right again and move on......

  6. It is standard practice in many areas to fail a person on their first drivers test.

  7. Yes that was not cool. Plus what bugs me is no matter how much they train the testers the tester will always grade based upon what he or she thinks is the right way to handle a situation.  Simply hope you don't get the same tester next time.

  8. I don't honestly see that as fair.

  9. yeah its bad...the person behind u could hit u from behind cause they didnt know ud stop so suddenly

  10. Contact your drivers ed teacher and ask him or contact the DMV or Secretary of State and explain the them what happened and see what they say.  I do what you do all of the time.  You stop behind the sign and then creep forward and stop again to make sure you can proceed safely.  Some intersections are blind and that is the only way that you can get through them.  I would call and ask.

  11. Unfortunately being too cautious can cause accidents as well. Another thing to look out for would be not accelerating through an intersection fast enough once you get the green light.
