okay my husband and I took a cab from the airport to our hotel about a miles drive our fare came to something like 10.70 and all we had was a hundred we asked him (cab driver) if he had change he said no. I could not figure out why b.c he was an airport cab driver and it was about 3 pm there was no reason he shouldnt have change. my husband then asked me if I had a ten on me and I did not well my husband and I were discussing how we could break it (because the guy was rude and there is no way we would give him a 90 dollar tip) well after a few minutes the cabby suddenly has CHANGE! I was so pissed ! he literally lied to our faces to get a huge tip. what an *** have you ever had someone who expected to be tipped be rude to you?

  1. No that's why I don't deal with cab drivers.

Only limo drivers and their payed in advance for their service.

  2. thats really rude.  if the cab driver did that to me, i would not give any TIP

  3. I dont deal with cabs, There is no such thing here! But had it been me yes I would have been mad and when he gave me my 89.30 I would have handed him back the .30 and informed him that by trying to s***w me he screwed himself.

  4. cab drivers are not banks.  they do have to make change for more than one customer.

what you were asking for was all of his change. the change he needed to use for the other customers with the smaller bills.

because taxi drivers have to deal with more robbers than any other profession. they are not supposed to carry large amounts of change.  it is often taxi company policy and training

(because of saftey concerns)  to answer no when asked to change a large bill.

  5. It seems like someone is always trying to size you up, and think that you have money like that. I know some guys who had beat that cabby's @ss for trying to get a tip like that. It frustrating to have someone look at you and think you can afford to just give them money. I would call the cab company and just hope its not family owned.

  6. Some cab drivers may actually be starting their shifts at 2 or 3 in the afternon and really not have change.

It is also for their safety not to advertise that they are carrying allot of cash on them. They do have a drop box somewhere inside but can't get to it until they bring back their cabs and have someone from the office open it up for them.

i think you should of made change at a ATM machine at the airport before getting into the cab.

Of course he could of taken you to a machine to get change but it would make the fare higher.

You probably caused him to use all of his change and he would have to make an extra stop to break your bill later.

People try to take advantage of drivers all of the time, what if everyone only carried 100's on them.

Some people actually get angry with the drivers because they don't take credit cards. Some cab co. don't take credit cards, I have never heard of any in Las Vegas that do.

  7. Honestly you should have had a smaller bill. Expecting him to 'find' change for your large bill wasn't okay. He has to do his best to NOT pull out a wad of cash to make change. Imagine being in his place. There are men AND women scam artist ALL over the place. Perhaps he was concerned that you were trying to pull a scam and see how much money he had. When he realized you didn't actually have the money he gave you the change.

You were holding him up from other fares while you were arguing back and forth. It wasn't his problem that you didn't have proper change. That would be like asking a hot dog vendor to make change of a large bill and HOPE it wasn't fake and he didn't just lose $100. I seriously doubt he was 'trying to get a HUGE tip'. I think your being just a bit paranoid. Sorry hope that helps you see it a bit differently.

  8. h**l yes, I would be mad.

& I would get his name & identification number and report him.

  9. You sound pretty mad. Don't blame you.  When my hub & I went to Jamaica, this guy grabs our luggage and insists on helping us put it on the bus that takes us to the hotel--on the way there he points to things and says--there is our hospital--(sign in front said hospital), mundane scenery pointed out to us all the way to the hotel--then he expected us to tip him for the "tour" he had given us!  We didn't.  There are people like that who want to take advantage of someone who is not confident enough to say no--glad you didn't get ripped off, so just let it go now, and relax, it's over.  There will more in this life, but now you know that sometimes the waiting game can be won, if you wait longer than the con artist.

  10. Yeah, that was rude.  Not much you can do about it, except not believe taxi drivers in the future.  You actually had a hundred dollar bill??  And just a hundred dollar bill???  I've never even seen one of those!  The most I keep in my wallet is $25.  That's about all I'd ever need change for, anyway, and really, isn't that about all most people need for change?  Next time, remember to keep a $20 bill in your pocket!  :-)

  11. on another note,  i don't think he did it for a large tip. alot of cabs, buses and other public transportation have signs saying no bills larger than a 20.00.  or driver carries no cash. it is for safety purposes. the drivers do not want the thugs taking their money so they have lock boxes stashed to put bills in. all the fares they recieve would be quite a large bulge in the pocket so they have to put it in somewhere. somewhere where it is not accessible. beings that they are airport drivers they have a larger risk. begger and thieves and alot of scammers hang out there.

to keep from being rude about it he should have explained he carries no cash. if he didn't say nicely that he had no change then he was rude. also keep in mind that alot of counterfit money gets passed that way. they don't want fake 100.00 bills.

hope this sheds some light for you.

  12. When traveling it's best to carry smaller bills or use a credit card.  Most cabs and all limos accept cards.  It's just not wise for cab drivers to carry large amounts of cash.  I doubt the driver was looking for a $90 tip.  It was probably all the change he had which means he then would be stuck with a $100 bill and no change.  I don't blame him for not wanting to give it up.  Your hotel could have changed your bill while he waited and the problem would have been resolved.  This really was more your fault than the cab drivers.
