His recent shoulder injury as a result of throwing too hard and too many innings? Why didnt they keep those rules in play when dealing with such a young star?

  1. Moving Joba to the rotation changed all the rules. He'd acclimated to the majors, knew what it took to pitch. Somewhere you have to draw the line-- when is a young star not "young" anymore? You can't really prevent injuries with a starting pitcher. They log a lot of innings and a lot of pitches.

In the bullpen, they could still have done the Joba Rules (an day of rest for every inning pitched), but in the rotation, Joba is meant to pitch once every five days.

There's not really a set of "rules" for that.

Joba's injury is just another injury the Yankees are going to have to deal with. This one really hurts because Joba was a constant. We could trust him on the mound.

But this really isn't anyone's fault. It's the way baseball goes.

  2. The joba rules was to limit innings pitched to prevent injury.

    JOBA RULES-

1 ip- 1 day of rest

2ip- 2 days of rest and so on

  3. The "rules" changed when Steinbrenner forced them to move Joba to the starting rotation before they knew for sure his arm could take it.
