Question:

Was this the right thing to do or just stupidity?

Okay, I'm not even lying 1% about this one:

Today, my teacher gave everyone our pre-test religion objective test copies. He told us to check if there is any anomaly in the marking, and then give it back to him.

I got 37 out of 50, and was pleased, since the test was tough. However, upon checking, I found out that the teacher gave me 1 mark more than I actually scored.

I struggled against my instincts, since one part of me wanted to keep things as it is while the other told me to do the honest thing.

At last, I showed him the fault. He praised my honesty, and said that if it had been the subjective test instead of the objective, he would have adjusted things by giving me 1 mark in another answer.

I'm not claiming I did a very virtuous thing, since a friend of mine sitting beside me also did the same thing. Obviously, most of us would have done the same.

But the lack of 1 mark may turn my grade from B to C, which is something I can't afford since my pre-test exams were horrible.

So, what do you guys say? Was it the right thing to do or a stupid thing to do?

  1. You have to ask yourself if you would have pointed out an answer that you had right but was marked wrong.  If you would have (and who wouldn't) than it is the right (and correct) thing to do to point out the ones you had wrong but were marked right.

  2. You did what you thought was right at the time and now that time is past.  Don't worry about it anymore, just keep doing the best you can.

  3. It was usually my experience that the teacher's grading error was resolved in the student's favor.

  4. u did good and will be glad u did in future`

  5. You can sleep well tonight knowing you did the right and honorable thing.  Let this be the example for your entire life.  Always do the right thing, even if it hurts.  Jesus sure did that, even though he knew it would lead to his crucifixion.

  6. Of course it was the right thing to do!

Never question honesty, even when it will get you in trouble.

  7. I still think you did the right thing...maybe since you were so honest, he'll give you the opportunity to do some extra credit work to bring your grade back up...
