Question:

Was this trade worthy of a veto? Fuentes and Burrell for maine?

I was offered Fuentes and Burrell for John Maine, and I accepted. without warning the commissioner vetoed the trade, saying a couple of the guys he talked it over with agreed it should be vetoed.

Do you think it should be? this was also a league where they allowed Rios for Cliff Lee to go through, so one-sided trades do go through, but I feel ripped off and feel like the league didn't want it to go through since I was in first place. Maine isn't spectacular, but he won 15 games with 180 K's last year, with good averages. Burrell has cooled and usually only ends up with 30 and 90 with a low avg, and Fuentes has a lot of risk to him since the Rockies are out of contention and he'd be first on the trading block. That's how I see it

  1. I would fire the commissioner complain to yahoo and have a league vote on this there is no reason this trade should not be allowed. No star is being traded the trade could be good or bad for both teams as none are proven players over a time period.how could the commissioner interfere it  should be up to all teams in the league and half would have to veto..complain

  2. There is no reason that this trade should have been vetoed. It is an opportunity to point out that you might want to reconsider this type of league. Personally, I would never participate in a league where the commissioner has that power.

At least in the default leagues it requires a 1/3 vote to veto and in custom leagues you can have yahoo handle that for you.

You can try voicing your opinion, as nicely as possible, on your league message board. Depending upon the response there you may want to try the trade again.

Good luck. Try to have fun.

  3. I agree with you, the trade definitely should not have received any contention at all. It could be argued that you should not have accepted to trade. In my leagues we make it a point that any contention of pending trades be med public so that all parties can be involved, and a majority must be in favor of vetoing or else it is not allowed.

I think that you have been a victimized by some haters.

  4. This is a case where the Commish has too much power and decided to abuse it and unfortunately it went against you.

You are in 1st place, don't worry about it this deal wouldn't have made or break your team.  It is not a difference-maker.  Kick their butts during the season and next time join a league where it's League Votes on any Trades.

EDIT to your comment:  While I don't disagree that you need the trade.  Obviously that's why you accepted the trade cause it fills a need or needs.  But like I said, other than leaving the league what can you do?

So really just suck it up, like I said this trade is by far not a difference-maker.  Closers will come throughout the Season don't worry about that.  Having an extra SP is good in case one of yours goes Down.

If you have to depend on Fuentes and Burrell to lead you into the champtionship, then your team is probably not as strong as I thought.  This is a Minor Deal at best and not really worth Fuming too much about.

EDIT to your latest Comment:  I get that.  All I'm saying again is really you shouldn't be hung up on these MINOR Players!  Just make other trades and move on!  Fuentes will probably be dealt anyway so which ever team he lands on he won't be the closer.  As for Burrell......he is way too overrated.  Make other trades, this got vetoed, so what?  you shouldn't be that upset, can't do anything now but either leave the league or move on and make other trades.  It's just Burrell and Fuentes for goodness sakes!!!!  No Big Deal Players!  I can understand if you were getting top-tiered players and it got veoted, then yes you have a right to complain and get pissed, but come on.......3rd and 4th tier players??
