Question:

Was todays F1 the most boring race ever,?

the only incidents of any interest happened in the pits, time to get rid of all the gizmo's and driver assistance and get back to drivers competing against each other, not back room boys and electronics.

I probably wont watch any more.

  1. It was dull but there have been far more boring races in the past, San Marino 2002 was a real naff race.

Look out next year, slick tyres and no silly aero junk, can't wait!

  2. My son just came in and said that one of the mechanics got run over?  Is that the same race?  Hate F1 I have to admit, it always seems like the one that starts in front wins, but someone getting run over (he is ok apparently) would have been more interesting than the norm - surely?

    :)

  3. I don't know about ever, but it is definitely one of the most boring ones this season. Hopefully things will be more exciting with next years rule changes .

  4. It was interesting

  5. The Valencia street circuit was supposed to have a couple of overtaking spots, but we didn't see many. I think it's not the circuit's fault, rather, the competition is so close this year with the control tyres, and only 2 or 3 seconds separate the fastest and the backmarkers, making overtaking difficult despite there being overtaking spots.

Hopefully with the shake up of the regulaions and KERS, we will see some more overtaking next year.

Pretty circuit and surrounds I must say, but it ain't no Monaco....

  6. It is expected. No surprise

The circuit have series of high speed turns leading to long straights. Now for modern cars to overtake, they must do it at the straight, because only in a straight line that the lack of front grip gives you and advantage, it allows the car to accelerate faster

However, through the series of corners, the lack of front grip is a disadvantage because you need grip through corners.

So, what happens is that the car at the back cannot keep up with the front car to go into a slip stream on the straight, because the car at the back is losing alot of front grip and is slower

The loss of front grip is due to a low pressure area created by the front car. When your front wing enters this low pressure area, there's no air to create downforce. Therefore, you lose front grip

It doesn;t matter you have electronics or not. The dependency on aerodynamic generated downforce is the main problem here

Another way to create downforce is to create a low pressure area under the car, this sucks the car down onto the ground, creating enormous downforce that sticks like a superglue on ground

However, such "bottom effect" technique has been use and banned, because it creates a great amount of instability, and causes many accident. Bottom effect would have allow the car at the back to generate downforce without being affected by the front car. That way, overtaking is possible. However, its banned

But anyway, the thing here is to generate grip without depending on aerodynamic. Next year, slicks tires will be use once again, and slick tires offers more technical grip. This may be an improvement =)

  7. All the hype and yes  pretty dull race

Not the best race, and still contreversal over  incidents in the race but resolved after with fines ?

Surely anyone else would have been given a drive through penalty

I hope F1 gets better than this

Cutting the budget has spoilt the fun of experiments and pushing the rules and technology

    BRING BACK TURBOS !!

  8. yes most formula 1 is...

  9. YES 100%  like watching paint drying

  10. How many F1 races have you attended in the flesh? Valencia was not really that boring - at least it is a high speed circuit where most of the spectators can see the cars doing nearly 200mph unlike some GP circuits where they cannot circulate that fast or even overtake. F1 like any motorsport is not for fairwether TV fans and is very exciting when you attend. Once you know the sport intimately watching on TV you can understand better.

  11. Yes. Boring race.

I can think of a few that were more boring during the Schumacher era that were just as boring. I hope this isn't setting a precedent for the rest of this season.

I feel that some of the Schumacher era races were more boring as it was a forgone conclusion who was going to win other than just lacking action. I lost all interest in formula one over those years.

I totally agree, let's go back to a more fun form of racing for the world's premiere championship. Either that or bring more funding to the WTCC and lets actually watch more of some drivers having fun.

  12. .

Watch it next year when it's wet, but yes, it was not as good as expected...

    .

  13. So I'm bored to tears with the race - nothing's happening - it's like a procession. So I decides to watch Jimmy Page at the closing ceremony of the Olympics - can't have been more than ten minutes - and what did I do?  Missed the only exciting bits of the whole (nearly) two hours!

It was hyped up to be a fantastic race - wide track - loads of overtaking opportunities - except nobody seemed to take any of them!

  14. There's some talk lately concerning banning refueling and reducing the strategic element introduced with pit stops and fuel strategy.

As we saw in Valencia, with the current situation concerning overtaking, strategy and pit stops was our only hope of some sort of change in position, a bit of uncertainty and hope, and perhaps even a hint of excitement.

Very quickly into the race it became apparent that cars could not even get close to the car in front, never mind look like they're going to try something, it makes you wonder, how the h**l far back does an F1 car have to be not to be affected by aerodynamics?

So we all ended up waiting for the pit stops to see who's going how far and what the h**l that means.

In the end it meant little, at least we got some controversy.

F1 is in need of change and next year it will be quite a bit different, and not a minute too soon.

  15. The most boring race ever was the U.S GP when only 6 drivers started. That was horrible.

  16. Although the bridge looks pretty, the Valencia track is boring. There are no overtaking opportunities really.

It seems that Bernie and Co. will do anything to avoid a wet race, and we all know wet races are always the most exciting.

And while I'm having a good rant, I miss the old qualifying when there was 1 hour on the clock and each car could only do 12 laps.

Remember the qualifying battles Schumacher and Hakkinen used to have just a few years ago? They were often better than the races.

Sigh, I still watch every two weeks but it's just not the same

  17. F1 is moderatly cutting back on the electronics, but yes

the race was boring, there are no passing zones.

It definantly was better than Bristol

  18. It was a boring race because all the drivers drove well and did not crash into the walls. I take my hat off to Massa because I thought he drove brilliantly.

  19. I gave up watching that rubbish years ago, take my advice and start watching Moto GP, WSB, or BSB.

  20. And I don't blame you. I find it a lot easier to not beat myself up when i miss races now and that saddens me. I haven't missed a season since 1995 and the lack of genuine racing action is becoming too few and FAR too far between.

It was a p!ss poor show today and on a track advertised for its 'three overtaking places'?! We have to be told they can only overtake at special designated places? That and the director of the coverage saw fit to show shots that desperately tried to capture the 'glamourous babes and boats' scenario of Monaco instead of the actual racing! What a sad indictment of motor RACING Our Sport has become.

  21. Not the most boring race ever, but probably the worst for a couple of years.

As someone else pointed out, the US GP was pretty poor when only 6 cars started.

  22. yep pretty much

one of the most boring onesive seen
