with the fan? Or the box? Because I couldn't find one that had one of those things that the down-rod hangs from...I bought my fan at a thrift store and it doesn't have that thing, so what can I do? Thanks for any help.

  1. the fan you bought is a surface mount, it attaches directly to the box without a rod.

  2. With no offense, I just tumbed UP Cowboy Doc. His suggestion is completely valid.

The hardware you mention essentially allows a swiveling, as a down rod fan will vibrate some, and that piece of hardware, allows that the fan will not tear out of the BOX in the ceiling.

It would seem, and again with no offense, that the Thrift Store cannot be liable. You could certainly link to the MFG. with the model, seeking missing hardware, or find another fan to Pirate from. I suspect you might be challenged to RIG something, but there is another option. Certainly it will cost more money. Buy the hardware that modifies the down rod fan, to attach direct to the ceiling and BOX, if you have access to supporting the box, appropriately.

Without knowing your cost for the fan, perhaps you might consider another one, New?

    Just my two "sense"

  3. Write to the company that makes thefan.

Ask them to send you the part.

    They ARE available.

  4. Everything you need to mount a new ceiling fan to a standard electrical box will come with the fan. If you still want to use the used one, you will have to rig something. Parts like that are rarely sold separately.

  5. It's the half ball with the slot in it. If it isn't with the fan and, you can't use the one that's there, your screwed.
