  1. Velcro is a god send when children don't know how to tie their own shoelaces. When you've tied a childs wet shoelace on a sunny, dry day you really learn to appreciate velcro! Just think about where those laces have been!

  2. I seem to recall that Velcro started out as an alternative to zippers and buttons, particularly for people with conditions, like arthritis, that made it hard to fasten those things.  Only later did people try it out on shoes.

  3. I think it was made for old people who couldn't tie their shoes anymore then someone decided to put it on kids shoes.  Its a blessing for teachers...some kids just can't keep their shoes tied.

  4. prolly invented when moms hit the work force

  5. No!  How long would it take you to tie 30 pairs of laces after P.E.?  Ever thought how good a 3 or 4 year old feels about putting thier own shoes on!  THINK.

  6. both

  7. Did you see Men in Black ? That could be the real answer !!!!!!!!

  8. I don't believe that it was invented so that school teachers don't have to tie shoelaces, but that is a very, very wonderful benefit. As a first grade teacher, I never want to touch a child's shoelaces. Especially when the students come out of the restrooms and their shoes are quite damp and they want them tied.

  9. Well I thank the person who did invent velcro as I am a teacher and think it's WONDERFUL.

  10. Have you ever tried to read a story while the children in the group are pulling their velcro strips off and on?  VERY annoying - lol

  11. No, of course knot.

  12. I invite you to work in a classroom with 18 three year olds .You'd be offering the Nobel Prize to whoever invented the stuff. Seriously, it helps kids learn to be independent sooner.

  13. I think velcro is great-it supports the children in their independence as in the early years children are still developing their fine manipulative skills needed for the difficult task of tying laces. Children respond better to 'mastery learning' which is where they are challenged but not so much that they are set up to fail. When a child succeeds they have a positive atttitude and at more likely to repeat the task and be more compliant about trying the next step of laces.

Also when I have 20 children to change shoes at PE time velco is a blessing :)

  14. No, it was invented so that when someone is trying to read a story to 20 odd two and three year olds, they can all sit there making that really irritating ripping noise, with their shoe fastenings, continuously. That's why.

  15. Seriously it was made for astronauts who had to wear bulky gloves in space and could not properly fasten a regular strap.
