Was your baby lactose intolerant early on; what did you do after 1 year?

My baby was diagnosed lactose and soy intolerant at 2.5 months. He's been on alimentum; he's now 7 months old. My nephew was lactose/soy intolerant too and on nutramigen (same as alimentum); after 13 months, my sister started giving him regular milk and he took fine to that... Were any of you in a similar situation; if so, what are your suggestions?

  1. lactose free milk

  2. I have a friend who's daughter was lactose intolerant. She did fine on soy formula and at a year old could not handle regular milk. They put her on lactaid, which is just a soy milk. She does great on it and it is paid for through wic (if you get that aid).

  3. Yes, both of my boys are/were.  When my oldest turned 1 I gave him soy milk initially.  After about 2 weeks of that, I tried regular milk and he did fine.  He's 3 1/2 and hasn't had any problems since.  His doctor told me that was fairly common.  My youngest is 5 1/2 months old and I hope the same is true for him.

  4. i never had that problem

  5. Lots of baby's have allergies to milk proteins. In my daughter's case, the doctor recommended we keep her on formula until she was 15 months old, with the occasional small amount of cow's milk allowed. He said sometimes it just takes time for them to develop a tolerance to it. If she would of had a bad reaction at a 15 months, we would of tried again at 18 months, but she took right to it. The only thing I've noticed is that her poo is always hard little balls, but as long as she gets one sippy cup of juice a day, she passes it just fine. More than the one cup, and it's explosion time, lol. She's 20 months now and drinks milk like a champ, and I don't miss formula days at all, lol. Good luck!

  6. Both of my boys did have that. They could only handle soy formula. But at one age I did try to give them milk but they couldn't handle it till the age of 3. Some of them will out grow it and some of them won't.
