I keep hearing that everyone thought they were getting 600 per adult and 300 per child actually got 300 less than expected...in fact I have not even encountered anyone who got the full amt. the govt. claimed they were gonna get? what is the reasons behind this? How can the govt possibly think this will stimulate the economy when gas is at a record SOARING high and they are shorting people 300 bucks that they 1st promised to give? Granted we all should be grateful for anything they give us as we dont have too giving a govt. but seriously, why the shortage in money on these checks?

  1. well.....let's see.....the money that went out was an advance on your 2008 taxes....THE GOVERNMENT DID NOT GIVE AWAY MONEY...... that was/is your money that you would have gotten next year (2008).  It was an anticipated loan....aka.....if you file every year and get back the same amount, then they anticipated that you would get the same return in 2008. So if you usually pay in or get a small return (less than a few hundered dollars) you prob. wont get the "full amount" of the stimuli.

  2. I got what I was supposed to get. I do know a few people that didn't get what they were supposed to though.

  3. I didn't have any problems - but I have heard of people that were supposed to get the $300 per child not getting it.  Contact you local IRS office.

  4. Mine was what the letter from the IRS told me it would be minus $106.00.

I had forgotten that over 15 years ago, when I was laid off from my job, and before I became permanently disabled, I collected $106.00 in food stamps, and that this money had to be paid back to Inyo County in California.

Yes, the Federal Govt. held this money against me for more than 15 years, and they deducted it from the stimulus check.

Of course the pittens we got in the stimulus check didn't even buy a tank of gasoline.

    .

  5. Anything is better than what I received. I got a letter stating that my stimulus check went toward past-due student loans. I guess that anything at all is far better than the government paying the government with money that was supposed to be used to bolster the economy.

  6. Every one of my friends and family got their full amount but than again they all qualified for the full amount also.

  7. Nope, mine was spot on.

  8. Should have been????

You sound like you are entitled to free money from the government.

If it were only a check for $1.00.....  it would have been more than what you should have gotten from the government.

  9. Pretty much I had recieved the letter for the amount  I would get and I got the amount.

  10. Lets see now the government is supposed to be a MIND READER?    When they first decided to do this gas was not at the price it is now and I don't think it was expected to do what has happened.

    Glass half full or empty?

  11. I couldn't agree with Red more!  Borrow money to pay a small amount to low, middle class citizens.  I read those letters sent out cost 40 million dollars!  That ppl is the mentality of our government!

  12. I got the correct amount. There's no guarantee you were getting the full 600. You needed to have earned a certain amount to get the 600. Check with the IRS website, it's all on there. If you meet the criteria contact them. I haven't heard of anybody getting short changed til you.

  13. Everyone's check was MORE than it should have been.  We should not have gotten them.  I can't for the life of me figure out why our government would get even further into debt with China!  They will just have to raise our taxes to pay for our "rebate" checks.  Rediculous.
