Waseem Rana wins Sindh Amateur Golf Open

One of the home favourites, Waseem Rana had a disastrous start but manage to get back during the final round in Karachi at the Sindh Amateur Open. The tournament taking place at the DHA Golf Club saw Waseem Rana grab the 10th Sindh Amateur Golf crown comprehensively.
The first round was not good for the star Pakistani golfer, and saw him trailing the leader after the first day. The first day saw him play a par, but the star golfer managed to reach the top after the second round with his all round superb performance. Waseem’s concentration and determination helped him win the crown. The golfer didn’t lose the lead once he became the leader.
Waseem’s triple bogey at the start of play on Sunday ensured he had to work hard if he wanted to win the crown. The star player was made to play very hard and he responded positively. Waseem was able to come up with two birdies and moved ahead of the other golfers who were chasing him and managed to come out on top in the end with a comprehensive lead.
Waseem managed to card rounds of 72, 70 and 76 adding up to a total of 218. Waseem, with his comprehensive victory managed to beat the pre-tournament favourite Muhammad Ali Hai. Ali Hai was able to finish in the first runner up spot carding rounds of 70, 77 and 75, adding up to a total of 222. Ali Hai’s main reason for losing was his below par rounds that he carded during the final two days of the tournament according to reports.
Muhammad Rehman of Royal Palm Country Club in Lahore carded rounds of 69, 73 and 79 adding to a total of 221. His strong performance saw the golfer finish as the amateur champion (net). The runner-up was another of the DHA golfers, Asadullah Khan.
The second and the third days sponsored by the Sindh Golf Association were without a doubt Waseem’s days where nothing went against him. The final day of play saw the national champion, Ali Hai come out with three over par 75 but his way was hindered by the rain that stopped the proceedings and Waseem Rana was crowned as the champion of the Sindh tournament. Ali Hai could only manage to finish in third position. The national champion was disappointed over the performance and said that he knew a lot was expected from him, but nothing seemed to go his way.
The tournament saw retired Brigadier Ayaz Peer win the Sindh Senior title by carding rounds of 80 and 82. The runner-up in the seniors was Asad Khan who managed rounds of 83 and 83. The net winner in the Sindh Seniors was Major Rizwan Khawaja and the runner up was retired Brigadier Hassan Rafi.
The tournament seemed to be dominated by the army men when it came to seniors in the tournament. Though the veteran’s title was won by Karachi Golf Club’s Kamal Shoaib, the runner up was another ex-army man Colonel retired MZK Burki. Abdul was the net winner and the runner up position was secured by Captain Muntazir Rizvi.
The ladies title was won by Miss Fakhia Ambreen and was followed by Shireen Khan in the runner-up spot. Nabha Hassan was the winner in the ladies (net). The junior title was secured by Mustafa Ghani and Daniyal Asim managed to finish as the runners up. The winner in the net was Danish Rehman who edged in front of Abdullah Adil.
The winners in their respective categories received handsome prizes for putting up quite a show that the small audience enjoyed. The prizes included golfing gears that had drivers, putters and other golf equipment. Trophies were also presented to the winners and the vice president of Sindh Golf Association thanked everyone for their support and gave away the prizes.
