Question:

Wash towels in cold water?

Does anyone do this? Does it get the towels clean enough?

  1. Towels and sheets really need to be washed in hot or warm water because of the amount of body soil that gets in them.  (more than clothes)  They do not really get clean unless you use the warmer temperatures.

    Towels I always use hot and sheets warm because of the shrinkage.


  2. I have washed towels successfully in cold water, and I'm not dead yet or even sick!  :)

    The idea with a towel is that you dry yourself off AFTER you've washed all the dirt away, right?

    It's probably a matter of personal preference, but you do save a bit of energy when you wash in cold water.

  3. I ALWAYS wash my towels on the hottest setting that my washer has.  You would be surprised how well they hold up!  I really don't think that they get clean in cold water....
