Washing Converse?

I know people say it's alright to wash converse but, i have a few questions before hand. Mine are red and I'm wondering if the color like fades or washes out or anything? If you put them in the drier, do they shrink? And, do you take the laces off before putting them in?

if you could answer all questions that'd be great. Best answer to all questions gets picked.

  1. The color won't fade for first few washings, but will after time. At least that's been my experience. I wash mine in hot water approx. every 3 months, only because I don't wear socks with them & they can get pretty funky fairly quickly. I've put mine in the dryer only once and they didn't shrink, but the noise can be quite loud & really beats the inside of the dryer. I now just set mine outside to dry. Either way, they will feel a little smaller after they've been washed, but after you've walked in them for awhile they get their old shape back. I always take my laces out to wash them & have never had them shrink.

If you don't want them to fade, wash them in cold water. That will delay the process. Also, if you dry them outside, don't put them in direct sunlight, that will cause them to fade very quickly.

  2. the color won't fade but i wouldn't put them in the dryer. it makes the circle logo on the side start to peel off. also, take out the laces cause it can get caught in the washer and rip. (happened to me 2ce)

  3. Wash your Converse shoes in warm water and quarter cup of Baby Shampoo in your washer set washer to six minutes maximum this will keep the color from fading much longer than washing normally in detergent, detergent fades things lot easier, baby shampoo is similar to woolite so it is much gentler and will keep your converse soft, detergent will harden and fade the color and fabric of your shoes, baby shampoo is less harsh on the rubber parts of shoes, do not dry your shoes in the dryer as this tends to dry them out and make them hard and brittle and potentially ruining them it also shrinks them and causes harm to the rubber parts, best dried in a hot or warm room out of direct sunlight and away from any moisture Good Luck !
