Washing Line Pole?

Question

I am of setting up a wahing line in my rear garden and am looking for a large pole such as a scaffolding pole. I want a really large one as I will be setting up the line from the house to the pole across the length of the garden and want it high so it is out of the way.

Can any one suggest some where I can buy one? I live in Portsmouth, England.

are you a stilt-walker?

if you find a 20-ft pole, how will you get it home?

how about using plumbing stuff sink drainpipe which you can get in decent lengths and s***w together with joints?  This will also be lighter in weight and less likely to demolish the neighbour's conservatory when it falls down.

Most D.I.Y shops should stock washing line poles complete with  tie off pegs for the line itself, I don't know how long they are but I have seen some around.

Failing that try a scrap yard or your local refuse centre, some one may have thrown out a scaffold pole, these are around 10ft / 3Mtr long.
