  1. Not enough info. Does it make any noise when its supposed to spin? If not could be the timer. If it does make noise it could be the belt or transmission. The timer comes off with two screws and unplugs from the back. Pull out the power cord first.

  2. check if something like a sock is stuck on the borders of the drum. If you hear a humming turn it off.

If not, control panel must be repaired. So the motor.

  3. It doesn't work perfectly if it won't spin. That's a vital part of the washing cycle..

Unless someone looks at your exact washing machine you probably won't get your answer here. Have a professional look at it.

  4. I would like to give it a try.  I don't know if your machine is a front loader or a top loader.  I have a Maytag Front Loader that stopped spinning last October.  I contacted RepairClinic.com.com.  Have your Make and Model Number available when you go to this site.  I wrote to the ask the repair guru what he thought of my problem  They felt it was the belt.   I ordered the belt and the service manual for about 50.00 and I did the repair myself.  I was so proud since my 5 year warranty ran out and money was tight.  I could not afford to pay a repairman.  In April water started pouring out from the bottom.  With the repair guru's help and my service manual,  I ordered the front door boot and once again repaired it myself for a small cost of 55.00 and an hour of my time.

I am a woman and my 22 year old daughter assisted me.  The extra set of hands helped with getting on the cable that holds the boot on.  My daughter was shocked when she came in  the back door and saw the washer apart.  She is not mechanically inclined at all and said that washers were on sale at Sears through the weekend.  I looked at her and said I can do this I just need an extra set of hands.  It is soooo rewarding when I am able to do things for myself and save money at the same time.  She really got a kick out of the experience and we had a great time.

The RepairClinic.com.com site assists consumers in repairing a wide variety and brands of appliances.  With the make and model number you can order parts.  It is advisable to have your serial number as well.  Sometimes they make changes to an appliance midyear and the same model can have two part numbers.  If you have a problem you can write the repair guru and they will respond.  They answer about 40,000 emails a month.  The longest it ever took was 2 days to respond.  I do about 30 to 35 loads a week and desperately need my machine.  I live in a rural area and the repair service only comes one day a week and is costly.   RepairClinic.com ships orders out promptly.  I highly recommend the site for all your repair needs.  I believe top loaders have a transmission and are gear driven.  Front loaders like mine are belt driven.  You can research your machine on the site.  Then read and see diagrams of your type machine.  You can see view questions and answers to them such as,  "Why is my machine not spinning?"  It will give you the reasons.  This way you get a preview of what you are needing to do.  Then you can write to the repair guru for further information.  The service manuals are easy to understand.

I hope you try the site and are as satisfied as I am.  Good luck with your endeavor.  Hope this gives you a start in the world of repairing washing machines.
