Question:

Washing an open cut?

When I was little my mom always told me to NEVER wash an open cut...

I got cut on my finger a little when I was cleaning, so some dirt, dust, and comet (the cleaning substance) all got in there...

I've been washing my hands like normal, and I've been washing the cut on my finger as well.

It's a little bit deeper than a paper cut, but nothing serious at all.

It's brown in color probably due to the dirt and stuff still being in it, but I can't wash it out of there. :|

It doesn't burn or anything when I was it...

Will washing it be harmful to the cut and cause it to not heal properly?

  1. Washing a cut is the first thing you should do, because if you don't you will get an infection.

  2. Washing it with an antibacterial soap is the first step to treating a cut properly.  After that, put some Neosporin and a bandage on it, and it will heal quickly.  Hope this helps.

  3. YOu need to get the dirt out of the cut. Sometimes that hurts more than getting cut. But otherwise it will heal inside your wound.  Not good.  Can be really infected too, that way.

So wash it out,.  Use something like neosporin and keep it wrapped, but se sure to let it air out too.

It might be brown beacause of scabbing.
