Question:

Washing machine causing short circuit?

My washing machine has been causing a short circuit and blowing the fuse since yesterday, every time I turn it on. Basically it works for several minutes and then you hear a strong pop sound and all the electricity in the flat goes off. What is happening? I called for an engineer to fix it but he just came over and turned it on and off, said it was ok and took £95 for this...as soon as he left I put it back on again but it shorted again. Please help..grateful for any suggestions.

  1. call the electrician back and tell him it's still short circuiting and he should come back and fix it free of charge

  2. Get the guy back, and make him do the job that you've paid him for.

  3. The heating element in your machine is blown and the idiot should have spotted it, mind you for that money he should have repaired it too. It fills up then starts to turn then pop as the heater switches on. To make sure I am correct try it on spin.

  4. Ask here http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/modules.ph...

its run by people that fixes washing machines and tumble dryers. you need to sign up but it is a very good forum

  5. Do you mean ALL the electrics , so lights go off too?

In that case, it's not shorting; it's an earth fault tripping an RCD.

Main switches do not work on overcurrent.

And yes, it's a machine fault not an electrical installation fault.

  6. Strange this, but someone just posted a similar question to what may be the answer you're looking for. Take a look....

The electrician should have told you that the problem is with you washing machine, and you need to get a washer repair man to look at it. £95 is a total rip off, I'd refuse to pay that! Don't pay him another penny, he's a pirate!!
