I would like to move my washing machine about 3 metres from where it is I have a hot supply pipe coming through the wall from kitchen and I also have a cold supply on a turn off/on tap in the room is there a simple way to make the pipes longer as i have only seen 2.5 metre supply pipes. If not which parts do i need to extend them. Tanks in advance am hoping to do it today so a quick reply would be useful. ;-)

  1. If you don't get any answers from Plumbers, I think you'd be better off, going to an old fashioned Hardware shop and asking them, they would prob' suppy the correct length pipes you need.

  2. Why not just use a coupling then you can join the  2 hoses together , that's the easiest way without messing about cutting pipes

  3. you can buy them at nearly any DIY shop. Just ask a member of staff working there or look yourself (DIY haha)

  4. Hiya you will need a length of copper pipe a hacksaw a set of molegrips or spanner and a rag! you are going to have to extend the current fitting! A plumber can charge you alot to do this but with patience and method you can do it yourself...dont forget this isnt gas here so your not going to kill anyone!

To do this notice that your existing connector valve has a "compression" fitting with a flanged wider end on it to accept your red-blue hoses. as most modern washing machines are cold fed...the blue or cold is the focus!

Turn off or isolate the water supply before the washing machine valve and remove the valve, being careful to preserve the adgacent joint, which may be soldered or compression, you will need a pair of mole grips and a rag to clean up.

The buy yourself a  15mm "compression" isolating valve ( isofix) from your hardware or plumbers merchants making sure both ends are the same.

Then fit a well cut peice of copper pipe (15mm) to one one of the isofix jointer and then fit it to the existing copper pipe feed. make sure you preserve the "olive" when you do this. the olive is a small gold ring like a wedding ring which are inside compression fittings. ( look at the one you removed to find out how they work)

make sure your isofix is in the closed position and have a screwdriver handy to open it when your done!

Then when you are all tightened up, fit the old washing machine valve to your pipe and then your done....turn back on the water cautiously checking for leaks.....pressures can be high

if it goes wrong...dont panic..just start at the leak slowly taking care not to make it worse!

    Good luck!

  5. The supply pipes can be re-run to a different location in the wall. This job is very easy if you're willing to take the drywall off the wall.

The harder part is relocating the drain line, which usually uses 1-1/2 or 2" pipe. It needs to be set up with a "P" trap and it needs to be vented.

I did all of this (relocated washer/dryer from inside to the garage) and it took me about two day's work.
