  1. Wow,  that old, eh?

Well here is something that works with genuine leather shoes, so perhaps it would work with the jacket.  You may want to trial a different piece of leather first, if you have one, just to assure yourself that it works.

First, put item in a FRONT LOADING washing machine, rather than a top loader that has an agitator in the middle.  (Go to a laundromat if you don't have one at home.)  Add a small amount gentle laundry detergent and wash.

When you get to the FINAL RINSE add FABRIC SOFTENER.  This is VERY important.

Then let air dry.  In the case of the jacket, you should dry it flat like a sweater.

This has worked extremely well for me with leather shoes, every time.

Oh - be sure to do the mending first!!!

Best of luck with your keepsake.  :)

  2. You have to take it to a dry cleaners. Make sure you ask if they are experienced with leather. Look in the phone book it might have one listed. Congrats what a awesome gift. Do not get rid of it you will regret it later. Good luck.

  3. Yuck, leather jackets are completely disgusting!  They absorb the smell of anything around them!  I had a friend in highschool who wore one, and I swear to god, he reeked of onions and roast beef constantly.  Plus, there's the fact that you're walking around wearing the skin of another animal.  It's just plain creepy.  Keep it because it's a gift, but never wear it!

  4. u can not wash it
