Washington Capitals' Mike Knuble's future uncertain -NHL Playoffs Update
Washington Capitals are on route to advancing into the 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Eastern Conference Playoff Semi-Finals as the deciding Game 7 remains against Boston Bruins in the opening postseason round, but veteran right winger, Mike
Knuble’s future is still uncertain.
At one point, Mike Knuble was one of the best players for the Washington Capitals with his diverse skill set that led Washington to being the top Eastern Conference team last year, but this time around, it was one of his worst seasons.
Knuble put up 40 points (24 goals, 16 assists) in the 2010-2011 NHL regular season but only 18 (6 goals, 12 assists), in 72 games played in the next. Set to become an unrestricted free agent by July 1 of this year, it is unsure that the soon to be 40-year-old
will get a contract with Washington or will be forced to test the market.
"I guess you have your moments when you're sitting around to think about where you are at the point you are in your life," Knuble said Tuesday, April 24th. "There are moments like that, but you're so involved in the moment and what's happening
now that you try not to weigh those thoughts too much."
He has played only three games during the playoff series and has one goal in them, which came as a sudden move when coach, Dale Hunter, had to fill in the gap left by Nicklas Backstrom’s suspension.
According to latest reports, Mike Knuble will be playing in Game 7 of the quarterfinals against Boston Bruins when the match kicks off on Wednesday, April 25, at the TD Garden in Boston, and will be on the Capitals fourth line.
"We're all confident in our game and the way we're playing," Knuble said. "There's no second-guessing what's happening in what we're doing on the ice. It's very clear the way we need to play… For us to be in this position, other than winning in our rink,
we'll take a Game 7. Roll the dice, see what happens."
Will Game 7 be Mike Knuble’s last with Washington or even career game as the player could also be possibly up for retirement if he does not see much prospect with other teams. Further developments can be expected when the postseason comes to an end.
