Washington Capitals Alex Ovechkin Defies Serious Injury during KHL Match -NHL Update
Things could have turned out much worse for the Washington Capitals captain, Alex Ovechkin, who is in Russia, with the Dynamo Moscow of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) nowadays, as he defied an accident during a regular season matchup.
The superstar forward smashed into the glass side boards, head first, smashing the panel and ended up with just a cut on his hand. It forced him to exit the matchup, but just for a few minutes as he cleaned up the cut and returned to the game, happier than
ever.
It is a well known fact that foreign leagues are not as physical in terms of their playing style when compared to the National Hockey League (NHL) in North America, which is why the side panels are not as thick and are prone to break into pieces much easier.
The arena’s cleaning crew was quick to have the glass pieces taken off the ice so the matchup could continue between the Dynamo Moscow and Atlant Moscow Region, of which the former won 4-1 with a fifth goal of the season by Alex Ovechkin.
Ovechkin, known for his friendly nature with the media and openness about his thoughts, was expressing himself with Russian reporters. The veteran forward also let the world know about how he was planning on staying in Russia, permanently, if his contract
was to take a significant cut after a new labour deal was imposed. He also added on how he did not think the current lockout would not be ending anytime soon and that the entire regular season would most likely, be compromised.
The 27-year-old is a former first overall draft pick of the Washington Capitals during round-one of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft and has 553 games under his belt. In all, the Russian forward has 339 goals and 340 assists to his name in the NHL for a total of
679 points and is certainly known to be one of the best in the league’s history.
Whether his threats of boycotting the NHL are serious or not, only time will prove that as both stakeholders continue to negotiate a new labour deal.
