Washington Capitals Capitalize on the Anaheim Ducks
The Capitals owned the Ducks Wednesday night, in what seemed like an old Western style free for all shootout between the two teams at the Honda Centre in Anaheim, California exclusive to a crowd of above 15,000 in number, 7-6. Defence didn’t seem to be a
part of either team’s strategy, as we saw shots being fired from wherever an opportunity was seen. However, Washington finally ended their three-game losing streak while snapping the four game winning record of Anaheim.
"It could be a game that gets us out of the kind of spell we were in," said Washington’s right wing

The match was decided with less than a minute to go in one of the most exhilarating performances this season by both teams.
All-Star Alex Ovechkin was certainly happy with Alexander Semin who showed an outclass performance, making his three goals the seventh hat trick of his career. Not only did Semin tie it up with the Ducks near the end of the second and third period, but backhanded
the puck through Curtis McElhinney with less than two minutes remaining, making it the game-winning shot.
"I can't remember the last time we scored six goals in a game, or seven, it was a fun game for us and a fun game to play. All the goals we scored were working-hard goals. It was very good for us" said an overjoyed Ovechkin.
Ryan Getzlaf scored the first of the match during an early power play, being overthrown by Ovechkin and Brooks Laich getting one in each, 16:07 into the first period. Ducks once again took over with Teemu Selanne and Toni Lydman both striking in the final
2 minutes, snatching the lead 3-2 at the end.
The next 20 minutes got a little wild, with goals coming in without breaks, when Corey Perry shorthanded his 29th goal of the season doubling the lead, answered by David Steckel and Alexander Semin tying it 4-4 but Corey Perry blasted the puck
to Lubomir Visnovsky once again taking the lead 5-4 ending the 2nd period.
Leading in the first 40 minutes, the Ducks couldn’t manage their position, with Mike Knuble lighting up the buzzer a minute in, during the next six minutes we saw the legendary Bobby Ryan growing the difference 6-5 but Semin caught fire, shooting the 2 goals
in succession leading Washington to take the match 7-6.
"You score six goals, you should win," Anaheim coach Randy Carlyle said blaming it on his team’s defence.
Anaheim fell two places down to the 6th position in the Western Conference after this game, while Washington remains strong sitting in 5th place of the Eastern Conference. Anaheim has to face the San Jose Sharks in their next competition
who are one of the top teams right now.
