Washington Capitals’ George McPhee wants Bruce Boudreau to maintain his spot – NHL news
General Manager of Washington Capitals was disappointed by the fact that the Caps had to face an embarrassing 4-0 exit at the hands of Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Caps showed a lot of promise at the start of the play-offs which they have struggled in doing for the past three seasons. However, they came up with a strong performance in the series against New York Rangers and won the quarter-final series in five
games.
Unfortunately, by no means did they look like the team that won the series against the Rangers. The Caps were completely shut out by the Lightning who under the guidance of Guy Boucher did an excellent job.
This was the fourth consecutive season that the Caps bagged a superb dominating performance in the regular season but failed to capitalise on it. They crumbled at the crucial stage but this time the series did not even go into seven games which came as a
big disappointment. Nevertheless, the GM of the Caps is still not in any mood of changing the coaching staff and said it clearly that he expects the current coach to continue his job.
“I expect him to be back, yeah,” McPhee told reporters. “He's a good coach.”
“Someone said he's not a good playoff coach,” McPhee said. “There's no difference between a playoff coach and regular-season coach. Either you're a good coach or you're not. He's a good coach.”
The Caps are always known for staying together and the statement given by their captain Alex Ovechkin is another example of the close relation of the management with the team.
“This locker room is unbelievable,” Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin said. “(This) doesn't fall on Bruce,” added Brooks Laich. “We're the guys that play the game. I think Bruce, (assistant coaches) Dean (Evason) and Bob (Woods) -- I think we have a dream team
of coaches. I think we're privileged to play for these guys. I think we're lucky to play for these guys.”
From one angle or the other, the fact remains that the Caps GM as well as the players want current coach Bruce Boudreau to continue his coaching duties.
