Washington Capitals Troy Brouwer excited to stay with Washington Capitals -NHL Update
Staying stable with a favourable team is always top priority of any National Hockey League (NHL) player and for Troy Brouwer, the Washington Capitals is where he wanted to stay and recently signing a three-year contract with the club, his first child will
be able to experience life in the nation’s capital.
"We had talks throughout the summer, and I think on both sides, we both wanted to get something done," Brouwer said after being signed. "My wife and I are having a baby in a couple of weeks, so we wanted to get something done before the baby came so I could
focus on that."
Knowing that he had a child coming up, Brouwer knew that it would not only be the concern for him since a team with which he can achieve what any player would want is also as important. Seeing how much progress Washington made all of a sudden this past 2011-2012
NHL regular season and getting deep into the playoffs is something that motivated the player even more to stay with them.
"One reason is that I really like where our team is headed. I thought we made a lot of good progress last year with our season, going into the second round, and we proved we can really compete," Brouwer said, according to NHL.com. "Plus, we got Mike Ribeiro,
who's a good center and really creates a lot more of an offensive threat on our team."
The 27-year-old played his first season with the Washington Capitals this past season and also has a Stanley Cup under his belt when he won the most coveted prize of the hockey world with the Chicago Blackhawks back in 2010. The Vancouver, British Columbia,
Canada, native was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks back in round-seven of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft and is continuously growing as a leading player.
Last season, Brouwer picked up 33 points (18 goals, 15 assists) in 82 games played and really took it to the next level by staying healthy and registering 61 minutes in penalty time. He also had four points (2 goals, 2 assists) in 14 games played during
this year’s playoffs.
