Washington Capitals Troy Brouwer fires back at Roman Hamrlik, Michal Neuvirth -NHL Lockout Update
After Washington Capitals’ Roman Hamrlik made comments about how the lockout was being influenced and aggravated due to “several superstars with big contracts”, young goalie Michal Neuvirth also came out and supported his teammate.
Who really got flustered with anger after his teammates went against the National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) was Troy Brouwer.
“Those are two guys that have never been on a conference call, never been to a meeting, never paid attention,” Troy Brouwer told The Post in a telephone interview Thursday. “People are going to have their own opinions but when you’re fighting for something
with 700 other guys, all you’re doing is just making it harder to make a deal and making it harder to accomplish the things we’re fighting for.”
For Brouwer, it is not about one single person, but instead, it is a battle against a few for a lot. He believes that they are struggling for all NHLers, current and future as their contracts are on the stake and a lot of changes could come about if they
give up their stances and back down.
“I am disgusted. We have to push Fehr to the wall to get the deal,” Hamrlik said. “Time is against us. We lost 1/4 season, it is $425 million. Who will give it back to us? Mr. Fehr?
Hamrlik was talking to TSN and the Globe and Mail, in which he discussed how he thought the players and labour union needed to work towards getting the lockout solved fast, instead of concreting themselves on a single aspect. It has certainly aggravated
a lot of players to hear this, and Troy Brouwer is one of the few who have come out to condemn their statements.
Neuvirth added that it was due to several superstars, who he believes are making much more than they should be or are worth in the end.
Troy Brouwer is a 27-year-old right winger and was selected as the 214th overall back in round-seven of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks. He has 320 games played to his name along with 136 points (67 goals, 69 assists).
