Washington Capitals’ captain Alex Ovechkin doing well in Kontinental Hockey League during lockout
National Hockey League (NHL) season 2012-2013 has not started yet and going into the fifth week of its lockout but it still cannot keep NHL players from playing as most of them are playing overseas nowadays.
ESPN, which was supposed to televise the NHL games, has now started covering Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) games in Russia where some of the top players of NHL are in action, including the captain of Washington Capitals, Alex Ovechkin.
The 27-year-old forward seems to be enjoying and happy with the re-union with Dynamo Moscow, the team where he started his hockey career 11 years back and played with them for four years, until he joined the Capitals.
The player who had taken NHL by a storm when he came, seems to be enjoying in his home country and being paid well for it as well. His fans are now supporting him and with this “lockout episode” prolonging, we might see few other players as well heading
to the overseas countries.
Boston Bruins’ captain Zdeno Chara was also in action and the defenseman also had a good time in his new team. The Slovak defenseman, who has played last six seasons with Bruins in the NHL, surely found it strange, playing for a team other than Boston.
With over 1000 NHL games, 35-year old Chara had moved to Sweden to play in the Elitserien Hockey League (SEL) when there was a lockout last time in 2004-2005 season.
There are also other NHL players who are doing well overseas and do not seem to be missing the best league of the world so much. Philadelphia Flyers’ alternate captain and forward Daniel Briere and another forward Claude Giroux are having a good time in
the German league where they are playing for the Berlin side, which is the capital of the country.
They have gone to the team which is one of the best in the league with six title wins in last 8 years. The pair of forwards did well in the first game as they combined for 6 points but could not save their side from a very hard fought defeat.
