Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin staying busy during the offseason -NHL Update
People might think that during the offseason, superstar players like Washington Capitals’ captain, Alex Ovechkin, do nothing else but party and spend time with family and friends, but the All-Star is not wasting time on any of those things and is preparing
to come out with the best performance of his career.
What Alex Ovechkin has been focusing on these past few weeks after getting back in Washington is improving his ability to stretch and skate faster and is doing that by strengthening the muscle groups in his lower body.
"I started working out in a different way. I started working out more on my body and movements. Right now I'm doing stretch stuff with the balls. At the gym, I'm doing different stuff than I did before. We'll see how it goes," Ovechkin told Mike Vogel of
the Capitals' website.
With a new coach, Adam Oates, in play for the upcoming season, Alex Ovechkin is also looking forward to see how he handles the team differently and whether or not he will actually get them back in playoff mode or not.
For Ovechkin, there are expectations that the new coach will change the system around much differently than the team had under Dale Hunter and previous coaches. According to the player, a more offensive style of playing is expecting.
"He was a solid player who read the game and knew how to play the game. For me, the most important thing was he talked to me for almost three hours. I was very impressed," said Ovechkin. "It's probably going to be a much different system than we had with
Dale [Hunter]. It's probably going to be more offense than we're used to seeing."
It will definitely be exciting to see how the new workout regime of the Washington Capitals captain will work for him in the upcoming season, which at the moment is in serious threat of being locked out, but Alex Ovechkin’s dedication also keeps the hopes
of fans high as he continues to train and improve in every aspect of his game for the hockey year, whenever it may start.
