Washington Capitals come up with a dominating 5-0 win against the Edmonton Oilers

The first game of Wednesday was played at the Verizon Center as the home team Washington Capitals played host to the Edmonton Oilers.
Both teams needed the win as the Oilers are in the last position in the league while the Capitals were looking for a sixth consecutive position.
Both teams made a decent start to the game which saw both teams making several shots on goal.
The Capitals continued to attack while the Oilers didn’t put too much pressure. The Capitals scored twice in the second period while the third period saw the Capitals scoring thrice to win the game 5-0 in the end.
Alex Ovechkin was named the star of the game as he scored two goals and made an important assist.
Both teams made a decent start to the game as they made shots on goal every now and then and their passing was also good at the start of the proceedings.
The goal keepers also did a commendable job at the start of the proceedings.
It looked as if a goal was surely going to be scored given the pace at which the game was being played. However, this didn’t prove to be the case as the period ended with the scores level on 0-0.
During the course of the period, the Capitals made 12 shots on goal while the Oilers made 10 shots on goal.
The second period saw the Capitals started off as stronger of the two sides. They not only came up with some decent plays but their defence was also very strong that cut down attacks regularly.
However, the Capitals offence couldn’t be stopped which resulted in them scoring in the 6th minute through Alex Ovechkin.
The Capitals continued to pile pressure on the away side and scored once again in the 11th minute through Eric Fehr from a brilliant backhand shot.
There were several more shots on goal by both teams with the Capitals bagging majority of them.
However, the period ended with the Capitals leading 2-0. During the course of the period, the Capitals made 15 shots on goal while the Oilers made 7 shots on goal.
The Capitals were determined to seal the game and did just that as they scored once again in the fourth minute through Captain Ovechkin once again this time from a simple tip in shot.
Eric Fehr also bagged his second goal as he scored in the 8th minute from a well placed flick shot.
The Oilers made a few shots on goal but it was the Capitals who scored once again through Alexander Semin to seal the game 5-0 in the end.
During the final period, the Capitals made 9 shots on goal while the Oilers made five shots on target.
