Washington Capitals host the New York Islanders in their fourth and final meeting this season - NHL Previews
The second game of Tuesday will be hosted by the Washington Capitals as they square off against the New York Islanders at the Verizon Centre.
This will be the fourth and final meeting between the two sides. All three previous meetings during the course of the season have been won by the Capitals 2-1,2-1 and 3-2, respectively.
The Capitals came up with a blockbuster deal just at the end of the trade window when they brought in a defensive star in Jason Arnott from the New Jersey Devils.
Arnott is one of the most talented and skillful players that the National Hockey League has come across. At the age of 36 he has scored 13 goals during the course of the current season and come up with 11 assists as well.
He was part of the Devils team that won the Stanley Cup in 2000. The Capitals also brought in Dennis Wideman from the Florida Panthers. Wideman is another one of the experienced and talented defenceman in the NHL.
"I'm really happy with what we've acquired and addressed and the specific needs that we had," McPhee said. "They're all good, experienced, veteran players that hopefully will assimilate quickly and help us."
The Washington Capitals at the start of their game against the New York Islander was shocking this past Saturday. They made a dreadful start and were outshot by the Islanders 14-5. The Islanders established two goals lead to their advantage.
However, the Capitals were able to fight their way back into the game as they scored three goals to win the game 3-2 in the end.
Brooks Laich was one of the main players who came up with a stunning performance to lead the Capitals to the victory.
"The main thing is a good feeling going back home after (Friday) night," said Laich, referring to an embarrassing 6-0 loss to the New York Rangers at the Verizon Center. "You want to forget about (Friday) night's game. It wasn't pretty and we were disappointed
with what happened. But to bounce back, especially after being down 2-0, we showed some resolve and came back to get a hard-fought win."
Both the teams have played 63 games during the course of the season so far. Out of these, the Capitals have won 33 games in regulation time, 10 games in overtime to score a total of 76 points while the Islanders have won 23 games in regulation time, eight
games in overtime to score a total of 54 points.
The New York Islanders aren’t having the best of seasons and they weren’t able to bag any of the wanted players in the Islanders squad as the trade deadline ended. The Islanders are going through some tough times in the season which have seen them losing
their last three consecutive games.
"We didn't just want to cut players loose," Islanders GM Garth Snow said. "I like the group we have in that room now."
