Washington Capitals new head coach Adam Oates confident about team next season, not changing anything
For newly appointed head coach of the Washington Capitals and Hall of Fame inductee, Adam Oates, the Eastern Conference franchise of the National Hockey League (NHL) had an exceptional season last time around and making any significant changes are not part
of his agenda.
What Oates has decided to do when kicking off the 2012-2013 regular season as the Capitals new head coach is something not that will affect their game-play, but instead, will boost it to new levels. He wants his team to be aggressive and go after the win,
which will definitely be exciting to see.
Dale Hunter was a defensive coach and his tactics certainly helped the Washington team during their postseason run, which included downing the 2011 Stanley Cup champions, the Boston Bruins, in the quarterfinals and nearly eliminated New York Rangers in the
next.
For Oates, keeping Dale Hunter’s and Bruce Boudreau’s strategy running, taking the best from both coaches and removing the useless aspects is one way he is planning on starting things off.
"I don't see any reason to change that," Oates said Wednesday, June 27, 2012".I really feel the game today is territory. You have to establish territory and protect it."
George McPhee, general manager of the Capitals, knew when he selected Oates to be the next head coach of the Washington team, he would be having a smart person behind the bench who knew how to make timely decisions work.
"You want intelligent guys running the bench," McPhee said. "A guy like Bill Belicheck in New England, he's a bright guy, and you try to get the smartest guy in the room. And I just think, with Adam's understanding of this game, his ability to articulate
it, he can be that guy."
Washington would have liked to keep Dale Hunter on the team, but the veteran coach just was not interested in all the hassle, but for Capitals, Adam Oates brings the best of both worlds and the stamina needed to run it all.
Next season is a must win for Washington Capitals as fans have had enough for ending short and Adam Oates just might be the man to get the job done.
