Washington Capitals play host to Carolina Hurricanes in the sixth and final meeting between them
Washington Capitals will play host to Carolina Hurricanes at the Verizon Center as part of the third game of Tuesday. This will be the sixth and final meeting between the two teams during the course of the season.
Out of the five games that have been played so far in the season between the two teams, Capitals have won all five of them.
The last and most recent meeting between the two teams was played on the 11th of March 2011 which saw Capitals winning the game 2-1 in the end with Matt Hendricks scoring the winning goal.
Capitals has bagged numerous goals against Hurricanes, outscoring it 14-7.
Hurricanes managed to gain only one point during the course of the series in the third game that went into shootout at the RBC Center.
Capitals was without the services of some important players who still may be out of action. However, with the end of the regular season far approaching they are expecting the return of some players like Captain Alex Ovechkin and Jason Arnott.
Their offence and defence will be further strengthened with the inclusion of Mike Green back into the squad.
Capitals is one of those teams that had a lot of injury problems as the season was drawing to a close. Though some said a drop in form would be seen but this wasn’t the case as they managed to combine well.
In their last game against Montreal Canadiens, Capitals came up with a decent performance despite their goal keeper missing. Capitals won the game 2-0 in the end with Braden Holtby coming for goal keeping from the AHL.
"The guys played outstanding," said Holtby. "We were expecting a pretty big push in the first period, and I think that got our guys pretty fired up. We came out pretty strong and held them to very few opportunities.

"It's a great game for a goalie to play in when your defense is battling in front of the net so hard that you're not getting that much action. It's a pretty good thing."
Capitals has played 76 games during the season out of which it has won 44 games in regulation time and 10 games in overtime to score a total of 98 points.
On the other hand, Hurricanes has played 75 games out of which it has won 35 games in regulation time and 10 games in overtime to score 80 points.
Hurricanes is in desperate search of two points as it trails Sabres by five points for the final play-off spot.
In its last game this past Saturday against the Tampa Bay Lightning, it was disappointing to see them lose 4-2 in the end even though they showed some splendid skill on ice.
