Washington Capitals play host to the Los Angeles Kings
The first game of the Saturday will be played at the Verizon Centre as the home team, Washington Capitals square off against the Los Angeles Kings. This is the first and only meeting between the two teams. The last time that the teams were against each other
was on the 2nd of January 2010 where Los Angeles Kings won the game 2-1.
One interesting fact ahead of the game is the Washington Capitals Head Coach, Bruce Boudreau was once the bench boss of the Kings but ever since charge of the Capitals he has faced the Kings thrice and lost all these three games.
There are quite a few questions ahead of the game with the first being the fact that whether or not Mike Green, All-Star defenseman of the Capitals make his come-back after the injury he sustained or not. This is the last home game for the Capitals as after
this game they go on a five game road trip. On the other hand, Los Angeles Kings are on a 10 game road trip and this will be the fifth game in the process.
Los Angeles Kings have been a very strong team in the season as they have shown from the past few consistent and productive games. The Kings have won five out of their last seven games. However, this doesn’t sum up the story for the Kings as they need to
put in quite a bit of work still. Before this they were going through some difficult times as they won only two games in regulation time out of the 12 games they played.
Three out of the past four games have gone into overtime where they have managed to win two and lost one. However, things have gotten better and they are expected to get better even further with the promise that the Kings have shown.
"They were preseason favorites to maybe have a Cup run and I think they still have the team to do it," Boudreau said of the Kings. "If they win two or three games in a row, they're right back there."
Los Angeles Kings have played 54 games in the season so far out of which they have won 29 games in regulation time, 3 games in overtime and scored 61 points. On the other hand, Washington Capitals have played 55 games in the season so far out which they
have won 29 games in regulation time, 10 games in overtime and sit in a strong fifth position in the Eastern Conference with 68 points.
Washington Capitals are without any doubts one of the strong teams in the National Hockey League. The only thing that keeps them out of a Finals reckoning is the fact that they have been very inconsistent during the season.
Their most recent three games saw them winning against the rivals Tampa Bay Lightning and then Pittsburgh Penguins but unfortunately they lost 2-0 against the San Jose Sharks. There are also questions raised over the teams scoring abilities. Coupled with
this is the fact that they are team which has been shut out on most occasions during the season (eight times).
The odds are going against a Capitals win and it is predicted that if Kings win it is going to be a slender lead of a single goal.
