Washington Capitals re-sign veteran forward Jason Chimera to two-year, $3.5 million contract -NHL

Washington Capitals re-signed their veteran forward of two seasons, Jason Chimera, to a two-year deal, worth an estimated $3.5 million, on Thursday, September 29, which will keep him on the Eastern Conference teams’ roster well through the 2013-2014 season.
The contract signing was more of an extension due to the player still having a year left on his previous four-year deal with Columbus Blue Jackets, which carried over to Washington due to a trade during the 2009-2010 season in between both teams.
His annual salary cap decreased from his hit of $1.875 to $1.75.
Being a player with numerous experience in the National Hockey League (NHL) with teams like Edmonton Oilers, Columbus Blue Jackets and now Washington Capitals, Chimera provides unprecedented experience to any line-up he joins.
"He's an older guy, but the one thing that's never going to give out on him is his skating, which is becoming so paramount in this game", coach, Bruce Boudreau, said. "He knows how to play. He's a big strong guy. He's an emotional guy. He's good in our locker
room, and we do think he's got the potential to get between 15 and 20 goals. And he seemed to score the big goal at the big time for us".
Picked up as the 121st overall pick during round-five of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft by Edmonton Oilers, Chimera has proved to everyone that he is a keeper and is certainly happy with his extension.
"For me it was a no-brainer", Chimera said. "It was nice that they showed some confidence in me".
Last season, Chimera managed to put up numbers he has not quite been able to score for the past few years. With 26 points (10 goals, 16 assists) in 81 games played, it is not bad to have a leading player on the roster; especially Washington’s which is filled
with young prospects in need of guiding players.
At the age of 32, Chimera would have become a free agent on July 1, 2012, but now has two more years with the team of his choice.
