Washington Capitals sign Troy Brouwer to multi-year extenion -NHL Update
At least the Washington Capitals are not losing all their players this offseason following Dennis Wideman and another strong member of the squad. The Capitals signed on forward Troy Brouwer to a three-year contract extensions, which is worth a total of $11
million.
The team made the announcement official on Wednesday and stated in their press release that Brouwer will be making $3.6 million if there is not a lockout next National Hockey League (NHL) regular season, following by $3.65 million in the next and $3.75 in
the last before he becomes a free agent again in July of 2016.
"We are pleased to sign Troy Brouwer to a contract extension," Capitals General Manager, George McPhee, said. "Troy is a physical and versatile power forward who can play both wings and who has averaged close to 20 goals in the past three seasons. He is
a Stanley Cup winner and a great leader. We are thrilled that he will continue his career in Washington for many years to come."
Brouwer is a former 214th overall draft pick of the seventh round of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks and was brought on to the Washington club by the Capitals during the 2011 NHL Entry Draft weekend in exchange for a first-round
pick.
He might not have scored as many as points as he did in a single season with Chicago Blackhawks, as yet with Washington Capitals, but is definitely working on getting their and eventually exceeding that as soon as next season.
Brouwer definitely provides the Washington Capitals with much needed offensive depth and is a real physical player, which can be seen by the 61 minutes in the penalty box he spent just last season.
There is no surprise in the fact that he is ranked as one of the players who are yet to enter their prime as he put up 33 points (18 goals, 15 assists) in 82 games played last season and has a total of 320 games played under his belt for 136 points (67 goals,
69 assists).
It will be exciting to see how the investment made by Washington will turn out to be next season.
