Washington Capitals team management hopeful of success with new young additions–NHL offseason Update
Washington Capitals have made many changes around in their line-up during the offseason after making a great run in the regular season but suffering later on during their playoffs entry, with a few young new additions, the top Eastern team hopes to make
a better run for the Stanley Cup next time around.
Washington has been the top seed in the Eastern Conference for nearly the past three seasons, but as soon as they make an entrance into the postseason, it seems like they were not capable of evening making the top eight.
Montreal Canadiens had barely made it into eighth place to capture a playoff spot in the 2010 National Hockey League (NHL) Playoffs and they were up against the Presidents’ Trophy winners, Washington. It certainly was one of the greatest disappointments
in postseason history as Montreal took the series after three back-to-back victories.
Last season, Washington again ended at number-one, but was eliminated again in round-two of the playoffs by Tampa Bay Lightning.
According to Capitals head coach, Bruce Boudreau, his team has been growing and now the next season should be a mature one for all of them to come out and shine.
"I think that is a safe assessment", Boudreau said. "It is Nicky's fifth year. It is Alex's sixth year. It is Mike's fifth year, Semin's sixth year. For those big four, it is time for them to become ... if it is not already, it is their team. It is time
for them to take charge and not be classified as 'Young Guns' anymore. We're expecting big things them from all of them”.
Washington general manager, George McPhee also is of the same view regarding their top players Alex Ovechkin, Nicklas Backstrom, Mike Green and Alexander Semin.
"They are difference-makers, and if they are really on top of their games and committed and playing well, then this team will have success," McPhee said, and that next season will be theirs to prove themselves.
With new additions during the offseason, Troy Brouwer, Joel Ward and Roman Hamrlik also have vested high interests with one of the top teams in the league. Next season will be a proving season for Washington in order to prove themselves a team which can
still perform under pressure.
