Washington Capitals unceremonious exit leaves question mark on future of many members-NHL News
The Washington Capitals have gone through quite a few changes in short span since being rooted out of the 2012 Stanley Cup playoff semi-finals about a week ago.
First one to go was their head coach, Dale Hunter, who even did not wait for consolatory remarks coming from any of the top brasses, offering to step aside rather conveniently.
Forward Alex Semin followed his suit, ending his association with the team straight after coming out of the playoff series.
Another player in the line is defenseman, Dennis Wideman. He is willing to become an unrestricted free agent from July 1, but his heart still seems attached to Capitals, and he has strong desire of giving a second thought to his departure from Washington.
The player told the Washington Post that:
“Obviously, I like it here. I’ve had a lot of fun here in the last year. I like where we’re going, the core group of guys is really, really good. So why not? I’d love to be back.”
So far, it remains to be one side of the story and there has to be a confirmation if Capitals will be willing to retain him and whether they will agree to fresh terms for him.
The management, which is so far struggling to get over with Capitals’ unceremonious exit from the competition, has not hinted at its future plans. It is also not clear if they will be seeking to rebuild the entire outfit or make few changes here and there.
Once the management comes out with a clear future strategy, fitting in the players like Semin will be considered.
Nothing much has been said about the couple of departures from Capitals either, especially about the head coach, who looked to be on the course of becoming a scapegoat of the team’s performance, but wisely left before the arrival of the day.
Some game analysts see the players like Semin well out of the race unless they agree to reduced financial terms. They predict the player will get more attractive options on the free agency.
