Washington Capitals win 2-0 against New York Rangers
The Eastern Conference saw the Washington Capitals playing the New York Rangers on home ice at the Verizon Center, which they won 2-0 in the end.
Washington won the first game of the series after a hard fought contest in overtime. This time they were hoping to bring out the best performance and take a two to nothing lead.
The game started off with the Rangers showing their dominance early on. There were a couple of shots on goal by the Capitals. The Rangers also got better with the passage of time and came up with a few shots on goal too but they could not score.
The second period saw the Capitals making a strong start, which saw them scoring twice to get into a comfortable lead. The final period was dominated by the defence, which resulted in no goals scored during the period.
In the end, it was the Capitals, who won the game 2-0, with Michal Neuvirth named as the star of the game, as he made 22 saves during the game.
Rangers were quick out of the blocks and fired quite a few shots on goal but they were unable to use the strong start to the fullest. There were several chances for them to take the lead but the shots often went wide of the target.
Washington Capitals showed that they were not far behind with a few dangerous attacks but the common problem of not being able to score prevailed. Both teams turned the game into an offensive battle where there were shots on goal every now and then.
Unfortunately, none of the shots found the back of the net and the period ended on 0-0. The Rangers made 13 shots on goal while the Capitals made seven goal attempts.
Capitals were the stronger of the two in the second period and with some superb plays they scored in the third minute through Jason Chimera to take the lead. The Capitals kept the foot on the gas and scored once again in the fifth minute during power play
through Jason Arnott from a powerful strike to double the advantage.
Both teams continued to pile shots on goal but they were unable to score any further goals. The period ended with the Capitals leading 2-0. During the course of the period the Capitals made eight shots on goal, while the Rangers made just three.
The final 20 minutes of play began with both teams on the back foot. There were no goals in the period despite the Capitals making three shots on goal and the Rangers making six shots on goal. The period and the game ended with Capitals winning 2-0 in the
end and leading the series 2-0.
