Washington Capitals win 3-2 against the St. Louis Blues
The Washington Capitals played host to the St. Louis Blues at the Verizon Centre this Thursday in another important game of the Thursday.
The game was very important for the Capitals as they looked to cement their position in the Eastern Conference. While for the Blues it was more a case of notching up a win in a disappointing season so far.
Both teams came up with a decent performance but it was the Blues who led at the end of the first period.
The Capitals came up with a good performance which saw them scoring twice as the Blues scored goal to level the scores on 2-2.
The Capitals scored the only goal in the final period to win the game 3-2 in the end. Jason Arnott, centre of the Capitals was named the star of the game as he scored a goal.
The Capitals made a strong start to the game due to their pin point and quick passing that put them scoring position every now and then. However, they weren’t able to find the back of the net.
The Blues started to come up with a few shots as time passed in the period.
With some strong plays, the Blues finally managed to score through Alexander Steen in the 12th minute to get into the lead.
The Capitals' camp was seen panicking which resulted in the Blues coming across a few chances but unfortunately they weren’t able to capitalize from this.
The period ended with the Capitals firing shots on goal but no further goals were scored as it was the Blues who were leading 1-0 at the end. During the course of the period, the Blues made 6 shots on goal while the Capitals made 10 shots on goal.
The second period started off with the Capitals attacking right from the word go. This resulted in the home team scoring through Scott Hannan from a quick fired shot in the fourth minute to level the scores.
The Blues was able to respond to this some decent pieces of play that saw them scoring in the sixth minute to get back into the lead. The goal was scored by BJ Crombeen from a decent strike.
The Capitals was definitely the stronger of the two teams in the second period. They capitalized from this as they scored through Nicklas Backstrom to level the scores once again in the 7th minute.
The period saw both teams piling up quite a few more shots on goal. The scores at the end of the period were level on 2-2. During the course of the period, the Capitals made 8 goal attempts while the Blues made 13 shots on goal.
The final 20 minutes of play saw the Capitals again attacking right from the start and they managed to score in the 15th minute to get into the lead.
The goal was scored by Jason Arnott from a quick fired shot that left the goal keeper with no chance of stopping it.
The period and the game ended with the Capitals winning the game 3-2 in the end. During the course of the period, the Capitals made 12 shots on goal while the Blues made 8 goal attempts.
