Washington Capitals win 4-3 against the Chicago Blackhawks in over-time – NHL Recap
The Washington Capitals defeat the Chicago Blackhawks 4-3 at the Verizon Centre on Sunday. The Capitals were looking for their eighth straight win, as the Blackhawks wanted to put in a good performance to move them into the top half of the National Hockey
League standings.
The Blackhawks scored the first goal of the game from the get go. However, the Capitals were able to come up with a dominating performance that saw them scoring twice and taking over the lead at the end of the first period. The game saw both teams scoring
goals in the next two periods. In the end, the score was level on 3-3 and during over-time it was the Capitals who scored to win the game 4-3. Mike Knuble, winger for the Capitals, was named the Star of the Game, as he scored the winning goal.
The Blackhawks made a decent start to the game which saw them firing shots on goal, as they managed to score in the fifth minute through Nick Leddy to get into the lead. The goal was scored through a powerful long range shot that went flying into the back
of the net.
The Capitals were not far behind as they managed to come up with some decent plays which saw them scoring in the seventh minute to level the scores. The goal was scored by Boyd Gordon from another powerful strike. Both teams came up with a few more shots
on goal, but it was not until the final minute that they scored once again through Jason Arnott to get into the lead.
The period ended with the Capitals leading 2-1. During the course of the period, the Blackhawks made 9 shots on goal, as the Capitals managed 10.
The second period started off with the Blackhawks making a few shots on goal at the start of the second period, as they applied pressure early on and managed to score in the fourth minute through Tomas Kopecky from a well placed flick-shot to level the scores.
The game saw both teams coming up with shots on goal and constructing some brilliant pieces of play. However, none of the shots were able to find the back of the net. The passing and shooting were both brilliant during the period, but the score was still
level on 2-2, as the period ended.
The final period saw the Capitals making a good start which allowed them to score in the seventh minute through Brooks Laich from a decent strike to get into the lead. Both teams came up with shots on goal, but it was not until the final minute that the
Blackhawks scored through Jonathan Toews to level the score.
The period and the regulation time ended with the score level on 3-3. The game went into over-time where the Capitals scored through Mike Knuble to win the game 4-3.
