Washington Capitals wins 1-0 against the Pittsburgh Penguins

The final game of the Monday was hosted by the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Consol Energy as they hosted the Washington Capitals. The Penguins played very well in the opening period while the Capitals were stronger in the second period.
The away side scored the only goal of the period and led as the final period began. The final period was again dominated by the Penguins but unfortunately they couldn’t score. The Capitals Captain, Alex Ovechkin scored the only goal of the game and was named
the star of the game.
Both teams made a decent start to the game which saw shots bombarded from everywhere on ice on both goals. There were scoring chances for both teams early on but they weren’t able to capitalize from them so it remained goalless.
The Penguins with the backing of the home crowd started to come up with some decent pieces of play that saw them nearing the goal further after each attack. The Capitals came up with a shot or two in between but they weren’t able to score as well.
However, as the end of the period approached the shots on target started to intensify from the Penguins. At one stage it looked as they would most definitely score but this didn’t happen and the period ended goalless. The scores at the end of the period
was 0-0 with the Capitals making 7 goal attempts in the period while the Penguins made 18 goal attempts.
The second period was almost the same with the only difference being the fact that it was the Capitals who were the stronger of the two teams.
The Penguins came across easy scoring chances of their own but they weren’t able to come up with any goals. The Capitals on the other hand got stronger and better with the passage of time. The away side silenced the home crowd as they scored in the 17th
minute through Captain Alex Ovechkin during power play from a powerful strike to get into the lead.
The period saw the Capitals coming up with a few more shots on target but no goals were scored. The Capitals led 1-0 going into the break as they made 14 goal attempts during the period while the Penguins made 7 goal attempts.
The final 20 minutes were only about the Penguins who not only controlled the pace of the game but also came up with numerous goal attempts. Their defence and offence were both very strong but they lacked in the finishing department.
The period saw the Penguins making 14 goal attempts while the Capitals could manage just 3 goal attempts but no goals were scored. The period and the game ended with the Capitals winning the game 1-0.
Michal Neuvirth, goal keeper of the Capitals came up with a brilliant performance coming up with a 39 saves effort to keep the clean sheet intact.
