Washington Capitals wins 3-0 against New Jersey Devils in a brilliant shutout performance at Devils’ home ice

The first game of Friday was played at the Prudential Center as New Jersey Devils played host to Washington Capitals.
The game was important for Devils as they needed to score the important points that were needed to cut the gap between them and Carolina Hurricanes, in the final playoff position.
Capitals, on the other hand, with a win could draw level on points with the Eastern Conference leaders, Philadelphia Flyers.
Though it was Devils who totally dominated the game when it came to shots on goal, Capitals managed to score the lone goal of the period.
Capitals kept on piling the pressure and scored in each of the next periods to win the game 3-0 in the end.
Michal Neuvirth, goalkeeper of Capitals, was named the star of the game as he made 33 saves during the course of the game.
Devils made a strong start to the game which saw them creating chances for themselves every now and then.
Their defence was also superb which restricted the opposition to almost nothing during the course of the period. In fact they could manage just two shots during the period.
However, the important thing was that out of the two shots made by Capitals, one found the back of the net.
The goal was scored by Jeff Schultz from a powerful strike in the seventh minute. The period saw Devils coming up with strong attacks every now and then but they weren’t able to score and the period ended with Capitals leading 1-0.
During the period Capitals made 2 shots on goal while Devils made 12 shots on goal.
The second period saw both teams pretty much even as they created some plays every now and then in their search for a goal. However, things got better with the passage of time and Capitals showed their productivity once again by scoring in the 16th
minute.
The goal was scored by Mike Knuble from a well placed flick shot.
During the second 20 minutes of play, both teams had quite a few scoring chances but they weren’t successful in finding the back of the net. The period ended with Capitals leading 2-0 with 6 shots on goal while Devils made 8 shots on goal.
The final period was a reflection of the first period where it was Devils who dominated the game but Capitals was the team that scored the lone goal of the period.
Capitals scored in the 12th minute through Knuble once again from a quick fired shot that quickly went into the back of the net. In the end, Capitals won the game 3-0.
