Washington Capitals wins 4-3 against the New York Rangers in second overtime: NHL Play-off Update
The Game-4 of the series between the New York Rangers and the Washington Capitals was played at the Madison Square Garden this past Wednesday, which saw the Capitals winning 4-3 in the
end.
The Capitals became the first team to win on home-away ice in the series. Not only this, but the Capitals are now just one win away from making their way into the semi-finals with the
next game on home ice. The Capitals are in good shape and already lead the series 3-1.
The Rangers made quite a few shots on goal at the start after which the Capitals took over. They created chances out of nothing, during which some splendid pieces of play were observed,
but unfortunately the period ended goal-less.
The second period witnessed both teams coming out strong and making shots on goal every now and then, but it was the Rangers who scored early to get into the lead. The Capitals came up
with shots on goal too but once again it was the Rangers, who scored twice to extend their lead even further.
The final period was a topsy-turvy with both teams pretty much in balance while attacking, but the Capitals scored thrice to draw. The game went into overtime, where there were no goals,
but in the second overtime the Capitals scored and won the game. Marcus Johansson, centre of the Capitals was named the star of the game as he scored two goals.
Both teams made quite a few shots on goal during the course of the first period with the Capitals making 10 shots on goal while the Rangers made six. The period ended goal-less despite
both teams giving their best to score.
The Rangers were quick out of the blocks once again as the second period kicked off. Their play-making was superb to say the least and they got themselves into scoring positions every
now and then. They were rewarded for their determination with a goal in the sixth minute scored by Artem Anisimov from a decent flick shot.
The attacking continued until the time when the Rangers scored two goals in the 14th minute to put themselves in the driving seat. The goals were scored by Marian Gaborik and
Brandon Dubinsky, both from powerful strikes.
The period came to an end with the Rangers leading 3-0 as they made 13 shots on goal while the Capitals made 12 shots on goal.
The Capitals were on top at the start of the final period and scored two early goals to trail by a single goal. The goals were scored by Alexander Semin and Marcus Johansson in the third
and fourth minutes respectively.
The Capitals completed their comeback with another goal scored by Johansson once again in the 13th minute through a powerful strike. The period ended with the scores level on
3-3 at the end of regulation time.
The game went into overtime where there were no goals. However, the Capitals won the game 4-3 as they scored through Jason Chimera from a tip in shot in the 14th minute of second
overtime.
