  1. Fortunately most of what you want to see and do are in the same general vicinity. Start at the Lincoln memorial and work your way down the mall toward the Capitol. The war memorials are along the reflecting pools. Then move on the the Smithsonians, choose which ones you want to visit and allow plenty of time for each one. They are extensive and extremely informative. I would go out to the National Air & Space Museum's Udvar Hazy Center last because it's out near Dulles Airport (separate trip). Have fun, get a visitors map and explore the city!

  2. I was trying to find you the website to this jump on/jump off sightseer tram that rides you around all the monuments, etc., thinking you could see it all first and then make your plan of attack by foot, etc.  but found this instead:  http://dc.about.com/od/walkingtours/a/5B...

It will have what you need, but if you were me, you'd park your car for free on a Sun. on a street near the Washington Memorial and lace up those walking shoes.  The town is perfect for it.

Just make your life calm by making a small itinerary with the phone numbers of the places you mentioned above. That way you will know their closing times / costs / restrictions; there are always "issues".  Some places require tickets, although their free, but sell out fast.

    Please have a nice time.
