Washington DC’s mayor, Vincent Gray, advises Redskins against going after Peyton Manning – NFL News
Washington Redskins have received a tip from the city’s mayor, Vincent Gray, who thinks that the franchise should not go after veteran quarterback, Peyton Manning, if released by Indianapolis Colts.
In an interview when the mayor was asked how the team should overcome the flaws at quarterback position, Gray opined that the franchise should look for a younger talent, who would be a long-term prospect and could stay with the team for a very long time.
Redskins struggled badly in the recently concluded National Football League (NFL) season and ended up at the bottom of the National Football Conference (NFC) East division after five wins and 11 defeats.
The regular quarterback, Rex Grossman, who played 13 games, struggled badly. He completed 265 passes of 458 attempts for 3,151 yards while throwing 16 touchdowns and 20 interceptions.
After the slumping season, it was assumed that the Redskins would hire a new quarterback.
When the news of Manning parting ways with the Colts emerged, Washington, like many other franchises,

However, Peyton’s health remained a cause of worry and Redskins’ offensive coordinator, Kyle Shanahan, said that Peyton would only be considered if he was hundred per cent healthy.

Besides these options, Redskins will also have an opportunity to select a new talent in the upcoming NFL drafts.
Gray was of the view that the Redskins should do a long-term planning with regard to hiring a new quarterback.
He said:
“I really think the Redskins need a quarterback that they can build with for the future.”
The mayor added:
“You know, Andrew Luck is probably going to go to the Colts, but there’s Robert Griffin III, and there’s a couple other promising quarterbacks that are out there. We’ve kind of been down this pathway with quarterbacks who’ve been great but maybe are in the
back end of their career, and even if he comes in and plays a year or two, where do we go from there?”
Gray was so certain in voicing his opinion that he even said that if acquiring a new talent meant another season filled with failures, the Redskins still should not hesitate in leaving Manning behind.
Although the mayor is not the authority to challenge the decision, his voice as a Redskins’ fan will certainly be heard by those who will make a final decision.
